Loaded nachos is something I consider out of this world. The crispy, gooey and cheesy combination is the perfect, fulfilling high-calorie meal I would have after a long, morning run.

With a bed of thick nachos (that would not break when you pull them up), smothered with tomato salsa, sour cream, pico de gallo, jalapeno and cheese, this starter that is often shared, is one dish I have loved for decades, having been introduced to it when as a teenager

So when caterer and online food seller Captain Shrimp offered this review, the first thing that struck me was its Loaded Beef Nachos, the brand's bestseller. It comes in a regular-sized aluminium tray with thick nachos, onions, tomatoes, jalapeno and cheese, enough for two people. It's fulfilling and delicious, but could do with extra cheese. And in case you can't finish it in one go, you can pop it in the air fryer for a quick re-heat.

Captain Shrimp started in mid of 2018, with 16 menu items, mostly focusing on seafood dishes, American and Mexican face. With affordable pricing, the brand, based in Petaling Jaya, eventually gained many regulars. Following popular demand, the brand shifted its focus on Tex-Mex cuisine, with additional use ingredients such as yellow cheese (Colby, Mozzarella and Monterey Jack cheese), cumin and flour tortillas, while maintaining use of cajun, paprika and lemon pepper.

I love the Minced Beef Soft Tacos. There are two tacos filled to the brim with fillings, and for RM18.90, it's really great value for money. It was more that eating burger than tacos, I feel. That's how meaty the dish is. The Grilled Chicken Salad gives you the greens you need with a generous serving of cherry tomatoes and if you are a light eater, the Chicken Quesadillas is good as a meal. There are four triangles of grilled tacos, loaded with chicken, onion, tomatoes and herbs.

For snacks or side dishes, the Fried Golden Shrimp is a clear winner. Large shrimps are coated in batter and bread crumbs with paprika, then deep fried. I love the additional spicy taste that it comes with. I also like the deep fried shitake mushrooms, especially with garlic dip. Kids and adults will like the baked Mac & Cheese and also the Oreo Madness, which is cream topped with Oreo crumbs.
